A look at some of the oddest places where games have been played -- from atop an aircraft carrier, a speedway and inside an historic theater.

The Battle at Bristol between Tennessee and Virginia Tech reigned in the highest attendance for a football game with a record 156,990 fans viewing from the stands of the Bristol Motor Speedway Sept. 10, 2016 in Bristol, Tenn.

The World Ice Golf Championship At the Drambuie World Ice Golf Championship in Greenland started in 1997 and is played in temperatures nearing minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit. Brightly colored balls help players keep track of them in the white landscape.

Andre Agassi faced Roger Federer during a friendly match on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab - the world’s tallest building - in Dubai in 2005 as a kickoff to the ATP tour. They played a game 1,053 feet above ground.

The first Carrier Classic was played by the North Carolina Tar Heels and Michigan State Spartans in front of 8,111 fans on board the USS Carl Vinson in California. It moved on board the USS Yorktown in Charleston Harbor, S.C., the following year. The event was never played again due to complaints of condensation on the court.

In 2002 the U.S. Open squash tournament was held inside the 102-year-old home of Boston's Symphony Hall. The tournament has also been played inside New York City's Grand Central train station.

In 2004, the WNBA's New York Liberty took temporary residence at Radio City Music Hall - home of the Rockettes - after they were displace from Madison Square Garden by the Republican National Convention. Fans could view the game courtside offstage or in the theater seating.

When Northwestern hosted Illinois at Chicago's Wrigley Field in 2010 both teams faced the same end zone as a precaution because there was no room between the eastern end zone (background) and the famous ivy-covered brick wall in right field.

The NCAA did it first, but the NHL has made it an annual tradition to play at least one game outdoors following the inaugural Winter Classic in 2008 between the Penguins and Sabres at Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium - home of the NFL Bills. Since 2008 the NHL has played games at Chicago's Wrigley Field, Boston's Fenway Park, Pittsburgh's Heinz Field and Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Soccer is played on "The Float at Marina Bay" in Singapore. The pitch takes up 95 percent of the platform built on the waters of the Marina Reservoir. The grandstands can hold up to 30,000 spectators.

In 2010, Notre Dame faced Army during a "home" game at New York's Yankee Stadium. The tight-fitting football imprint now hosts the annual Pinstripe Bowl.
