Georgia State made history, even if it didn't make as much history as it had hoped.

The Panthers' first appearance in an NCAA baseball regional ended Saturday with a 4-3 loss to Elon in the NCAA Atlanta Regional at Georgia Tech.

"I'm disappointed. I'm proud," Georgia State coach Greg Frady said before pausing for a few seconds to compose his thoughts. "By no means are we satisfied or happy that we lost. Please don't interpret that that way."

The Panthers (39-22) were simply stopped by two aces. After Georgia Tech's Deck McGuire stoned them with power for six of his seven innings last night, Elon's Jimmy Reyes tied them in knots with curveballs and off-speed pitches for six of his eight innings, striking out a career-high 14 batters in eight innings.

"I think it was somewhat bad luck that we got two aces like that back to back," Frady said. "But if we are going to play in our first regional, playing two top-25 teams with pitchers like that is a good experience for our kids."

After the game, Georgia State's fans stood and applauded their team, and the players, wearing their uniforms that resemble those worn by the Braves from 1972-75 that featured the white tops with blue sleeves, returned the act.

"We've been building to this for a lot of years, going back to the players before us," said Bradley Logan, who had an RBI single in the first and a sacrifice in the third. "We knew we could make a run, we just came up a little bit short."

Derek Simmons had a homer in the first.
