Melanie Oudin's run to the U.S. Open quarterfinals vaulted her to 44th in the world rankings.

Oudin, the Marietta phenom who will turn 18 next week, previously was ranked 70th.

After making the fourth round at Wimbeldon, Oudin pulled off three straight upsets to reach the U.S. Open quarters, where she fell to Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark. Oudin's performance in New York made the 5-foot-6 dynamo the top story in women's tennis.

Oudin is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Saturday night's Braves-Phillies game.

She plans to return to competition at the Toray Pan Pacific Open, which starts Sept. 27 in Tokyo.
