One name stands out among the CEOs and politicians on Fortune Magazine's 2018 list of "The World's 50 Greatest Leaders" and that name is Nick Saban.
The football coach at the University of Alabama since 2007, Saban has led the Crimson Tide to five of the program’s 16 national titles and year after year recruits one of the nation’s top signing classes.
Saban landed the No. 12 spot on Fortune’s list ranking higher than Apple CEO Tim Cook, tennis star Serena Williams and The Gymnasts and their Allies from the Larry Nassar and Michigan State sexual abuse scandal.
“Now that he’s succeeded to a historic degree, Saban is grappling with the sports version of what business guru Clayton Christensen famously dubbed the “Innovator’s Dilemma”—the fact that success today makes it hard to keep the edge you need to win in the future,” Fortune editors wrote. “But if the last few years are any indication, the grappling is going pretty well.”
