Former Georgia Tech great Mark Price was honored for his contributions to college basketball in the state at the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Naismith Awards banquet Tuesday.

Price, a point guard, led the Yellow Jackets to their first ACC championship and regular-season title as a junior in 1985. His jersey was retired by the school.

“I’m extremely honored to get the award and making a difference in Georgia sports and athletics and basketball in particular,” he said Monday. “Anytime your home city honors you it’s exciting.”

After 12 years in the NBA, Price joined the coaching staff at Duluth High School and then became head coach at Whitefield Academy. In between those jobs he was an assistant coach to Bobby Cremins at Tech. The NBA’s all-time most accurate free-throw shooter (90.4 percent), Price has has worked as a shooting consultant or coach for several NBA teams.

Former Tennessee coach Pat Summitt and former Arizona coach Lute Olson were honored for their contributions to college basketball. Numerous high school players were also honored.
