Highest paid college football coaches in 2010

A ranking of the highest paid college football coaches in 2010 includes Georgia's Mark Richt and Georgia Tech's Paul Johnson.

HONORABLE MENTION. PAUL JOHNSON, GEORGIA TECH, $2.3 MILLION: In his third season as the Jackets' head football coach, Paul Johnson led the team to 6-7 record. The Jackets' season ended with a 14-7 loss to Air Force at the Independence Bowl.

HONORABLE MENTION. CHIP KELLY, OREGON, $2.4 MILLION: Voted AP's Coach of the Year, Chip Kelly led the Oregon Ducks to a BCS title berth in his second year as head coach. The Ducks finished the regular season undefeated with 12 wins for the first time in program history, and repeated as Pac-10 champions.

HONORABLE MENTION. GENE CHIZIK, AUBURN, $2.1 MILLION: Coach Gene Chizik led the Auburn Tigers to the BCS title game in his second year. The Tigers completed a 13-0 regular season by defeating South Carolina in the SEC Championship Game.

10. BOBBY PETRINO, ARKANSAS, $2.7 MILLION: In his third year at Arkansas, Bobby Petrino led the Razorbacks a 10-3 record and a berth in the Sugar Bowl, their first major bowl appearance in two decades. Arkansas' season ended with a 26-31 loss to Ohio State in the BCS bowl game.

8. MARK RICHT, GEORGIA, $2.937 MILLION: In his 10th season as Georgia's head coach, Mark Richt led the Bulldogs to a 6-7 record -- their first losing season in more than a decade. Georgia ended its season with a 6-10 loss to Central Florida in the Liberty Bowl.

8. JIM GROBE, WAKE FOREST, $2.939 MILLION: Jim Grobe, in his 10th season at Wake Forest, led the Demon Deacons to a 3-9 record. The Demon Deacons have not been to a bowl game since 2008.

7. KIRK FERENTZ, IOWA, $3.7 MILLION: In his 12th year at Iowa, Kirk Ferentz's Hawkeyes had an 8-5 record. The Hawkeyes' season ended with a 27-24 win over the Missouri Tigers in the Insight Bowl.

6. JIM TRESSEL, OHIO STATE, $3.8 MILLION: Before he stepped down on May 30, Jim Tressel led his team to a 12-1 record and a share of the Big Ten conference title. The Buckeyes' season ended with 31-26 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Sugar Bowl - the school's first win over an SEC team in a bowl game.

5. LES MILES, LSU, $3.9 MILLION: In his sixth year at the helm at LSU, Les Miles led the Tigers to a 10-2 regular season. The Tigers will face the Texas A&M Aggies in the Cotton Bowl.

4. URBAN MEYER, FLORIDA, $4 MILLION: The Gators' head coach retired after six seasons in Florida. The Gators (8-5) ended their season with a 37-24 win over Penn State in the Outback Bowl. His replacement, Will Muschamp, will reportedly make will pay Muschamp more than $2.5 million per season despite never having been a head coach.

3. BOB STOOPS, OKLAHOMA, $4.3 MILLION: Bob Stoops, in his 12th year at Oklahoma, led the Sooners to a Big XII title and a 12-2 record. Oklahoma's season ended with a 48-20 win over Connecticut in the Fiesta Bowl.

2. MACK BROWN, TEXAS, $5.16 MILLION: In his 13th year at Texas, Mack Brown's Longhorns finished the season 5-7. It was the Longhorns' first losing season since 1997. He is under contract until 2016.

1. NICK SABAN, ALABAMA, $5.9 MILLION: Nick Saban, in his fourth season with Alabama, led the Crimson Tide to a 10-3 record. Alabama's season ended with a 49-7 win over Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl.
