One of the state’s longest-running track meets will feature some of Georgia’s top athletes when the Roswell Rotary Relays begin Saturday at Roswell High School. Sponsored by the Roswell Rotary Club, the event is in its 19th year.

Among the current state-leading athletes and relay teams expected to participate are the Milton boys’ 3,200-meter relay team, Kell senior Logan Poteet (3,200), Sequoyah junior Derrion Rakestraw (long jump), Fellowship Christian junior Emma Grace Hurley (1,600), Woodstock senior Tatiyana Rayford (100 hurdles) and Harrison sophomore Sydne Wiggins (high jump).

Clark has impressive start: One of the country's most heralded sprinters is once again off to a tremendous start as a senior. Ryan Clark of Banneker leads the nation in the 100 meters and the 200 meters, with times of 10.38 seconds and 20.92, respectively, both of them turned in at the Atlanta Games Invitational, hosted by Grady High School on March 7. … Northside-Warner Robins junior Cassondra Hall has been rolling early as well. Last season's Class AAAAA state champion in the 100 and 200 meters, Hall is the state leader in both events this season with times of 11.84 (No. 14 nationally) and 24.15 (No. 9 nationally), respectively.

Georgians among nation's best: In addition to Clark, a host of athletes from Georgia are ranked in the top 20 in the nation in their respective events. For the boys, Calhoun senior Thomas Lester is 10th in the 100 meters (10.59). Senior Quintaveon Poole of Washington County is 10th in the 200 meters (21.53) while Vidalia sophomore Nathan McBride and Savannah Christian junior Demetris Robertson are tied for 14th (21.53). Southwest DeKalb sophomore Terry Conwell is fifth in the 400 meters (48.00). Four are ranked in the top 20 in the 110 meter hurdles: Hampton junior Daniel Roberts (13.79) is No. 1, followed by Westlake senior Treymane Flagler (5th, 13.94), Kennesaw Mountain senior Robert Dunning (10th, 14.09) and Archer senior Austin Lyons (14th, 14.21). In the 3,200 meters, Poteet is second (8:57.97), senior Miles Yapp of Brookwood is third (9:01.05) and senior Christian Bowles is fifth (9:11.27). Archer junior Ryan Camp is No. 7 in the discus (179 feet, 2 inches), (179 feet, 2 inches), in the long jump Sequoya's Rakeshaw is fifth (23-9) and Dayo Akindele is 17th (23-1), Campbell junior Isaiah Rogers is 10th in the shot put (57-9), and Mill Creek sophomore Nick Campbell is 20th. In the triple jump, Jeremiah Holloman, a sophomore at Newton, is No. 5 (47-11 1/4) and Rutland senior Brandon Bawn is eighth (47-7 1/2).
