Gymnastics Player of the Year
Sienna Schreiber, West Forsyth
Achievements: 2017 All-Around state champion and led West Forsyth to the school's first team state title this year. Earned a 2016 Individual state champion on beam and vault. Recorded a perfect 10 on the vault at the 2017 state meet and is a 2017 Junior Olympic National Qualifier.

College choice: Committed to Missouri
Why Missouri: I started my college search looking at schools like Michigan, Auburn, Ohio State and Nebraska. However, I quickly fell in love with the University of Missouri. Mizzou has a gymnastics program that is on the rise. I wanted to contribute and be part of a team that is setting new team records at every meet. I also felt an instant connection to all the coaches, and I really liked the girls who are currently on the team. The culture just felt right. I also appreciate the strong academics, as well.
Best high school moment: That was definitely when our team was announced state champions at the GHSA state gymnastics meet this year. We went crazy.
Why gymnastics: My mom put me in the Mom-and-Tots class when I was 18 months old because I was a super energetic kid. The more I did gymnastics, the more I loved it. I can't wait to get to gym every day to perfect my skills and then learn new skills and be with my friends. I can't imagine my life without it.
What would you like to be doing in 10 years?: I would like to be an assistant coach for college gymnastics team or possibly an engineer/entrepreneur. I'm not sure yet.
Favorite high school course: Engineering is my favorite class. I get to work on projects and be creative. Plus, there's no homework and my teacher, Coach T, is a big supporter of mine.
People who helped along the way: My family, my teammates — past and present — and their families have all been so supportive. We are a tight group, and that means so much to me. Also, my current coaches at NorthWind, Elena Piskun, who was an Olympic gymnast and world champion, and Inesa Sharouskaya, have been influential in my success as a Level 10 gymnast. I respect them and their training and know they want the best for me. We have fun. Also, I can't leave out my high school coach, Ashley Owen. She brings so much positive energy to our team.
Toughest opponent: Team-wise, I'd say Buford and Lambert. They are both former state champions and full of talented gymnasts. Athlete-wise, I'd say it's my teammate Aundria Crittenden because she is strong on all events. She pushes me to do my best. We finish first and second in a lot of events. I'm glad she's my teammate.
Favorite movie: I love "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."
Favorite song: Either "All Me" by Drake or "Ode To Sleep" by Twenty One Pilots. Both are great. I can't choose.
Worst high school moment: I don't think I've had one yet, but I still have two years left. I'm sure something will happen.
If you could be any athlete on earth: Simone Biles seems like a perfect role model because she gets to be the best gymnast in the world while having fun and making a career out of it.
Money or happiness: Happiness, for sure. Money cannot replace the love of a family or the feeling of success.
Best word to describe yourself: Focused
View of the world at this moment: Political and violent
What would you put in a time capsule: I'm a collector, so I would put in one of my snow globes, one of my medals from a meet, my favorite candy (gummies) and some necklaces that I made to remember what the style was in 2017.
