High School Football: Newnan's Ogletree Brothers

High School Football photos: A look at Newnan's Alec & Zander Ogletree, talented twin football recruits, August 2009.

Newnan High School football players Alec and Alexander Ogletree are arguably the state's most famous twins.

This season, AJC reporter Michael Carvell and photographer Jason Getz will follow the twins as they deal with the pressures of the recruiting process, new-found stardom, and attempting to lead Newnan to the Class AAAAA state championship.

"People don't really get us confused as twins because Alec (right) has always been taller than me." -- Zander Ogletree (left)

"It's interesting that I ended up being so heavily recruited at defense because very few people know I was supposed to play wide receiver in high school." -- Alec Ogletree (center)

"I've got an offer from Savannah State, and there are other schools, including Florida State and Miami, that have shown a lot of interest." -- Zander Ogletree (33, right)

"On the first day of practice as a freshman, I went to the wrong group when they broke us up. I went with the defensive backs and they kept me over there for the next four years." -- Alec Ogletree (39)

6-foot-3, 220-pound Alec is rated as one of the nation's top college prospects at safety and has committed to Georgia over more than 50 scholarship offers.

"I'm glad to be finished with recruiting. I didn't plan on committing my junior year, but I visited all my favorite schools and the timing felt right to go with Georgia. I hope my brother ends up with me at Georgia. That would be a dream. But if not, I know Zander will get an opportunity to play somewhere else and be a very good college player." -- Alec Ogletree (39)

"It has been cool seeing Alec so highly recruited. There's no jealousy from me. It has helped get me some looks by scouts, but I know I have to hold my own. It makes me want to practice harder and be better than him. We'd love to be teammates at Georgia. If it doesn't work out at Georgia, then that would be OK, too. If I go somewhere else, it would be like spending the night at someone else's house and Alec is not there. But we'll always be best friends." -- Zander Ogletree

"The coolest thing about having a twin brother is that you always have someone around to do something with." -- Alec Ogletree (right, with twin Zander)
