Mill Creek safety Caleb Downs, the consensus No. 1 senior prospect in Georgia, has been named the state’s player of the year this week by the Touchdown Club of Atlanta and MaxPreps.

Downs led Mill Creek to its first state title last week as the Hawks defeated Carrollton 70-35 in the Class 7A championship.

Downs had 1,064 total yards as a rusher, receiver and return man. He intercepted five passes. Downs is committed to Alabama.

The TD club also announced its all-star team of metro Atlanta players. MaxPreps state award puts Downs in the running for national player of the year.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution will be naming a state player of the year and publishing its all-state teams at the end of the year.
