Malkom Parrish, a Brooks County quarterback who passed for more than 3,000 yards and rushed for nearly 1,000 in 2012, leads GHSF Daily’s preseason all-state team for Class AA.
Parrish, projected as a cornerback in college, committed to Georgia. He’s joined on the team by Heard County offensive lineman Jake Edwards, who also said he will play at Georgia.
Georgia Tech also has two committed players on the AA preseason all-state team. They are Lamar County teammates Lawrence Austin (running back) and Qua Searcy (defensive back). A third, Lance Austin, might have made the team were his primary high school position not quarterback.
Other AA preseason all-state players who made their college decisions are Lovett defensive back/running back Grant Haley (Vanderbilt) and Westminster defensive lineman Sam Schmal (Boston College), both from Region 6.
Defending champion Jefferson is represented by tight end Donnie Hatfield and offensive lineman Jordan Tyler. Runner-up Calhoun placed two players: offensive lineman Katrova Drew and linebacker Will Conley.
