Georgia Tech took a 21-17 lead into halftime against Pittsburgh on Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
On the opening drive, it took the Panthers just five plays to go 78 yards, which ended in a 28-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Dinucci to running back Qadree Ollison.
Tech responded with two touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead. After shaking off a bad pitch that led to a fumble on the Yellow Jackets’ first drive, Marshall ran down the sideline, barely staying in bounds for a 32-yard touchdown to tie the score at 7-7 with 6:29 to go in the quarter.
In the second quarter, Marshall hit the “B” button and threw a nasty spin move on Pittsburgh safety Damar Hamlin to set the Yellow Jackets up with a first-and-goal at the 1. On the next play Marshall ran in the end zone for his second touchdown of the game to put Tech up 14-7.
But Tech was unable to keep the lead. The Panthers’ preseason first-team All-ACC punt returner Quadree Henderson made a couple of Yellow Jackets miss tackles as he took a Pressley Harvin punt 80 yards for a touchdown.
The Yellow Jackets closed the half on a 13-play, 86-yard drive that whittled the clock down from 5:06 to 51 seconds left. Running back KirVonte Benson scored on a 5-yard touchdown run to break the tie heading into halftime.
Panthers’ kicker Alex Kessman made a 55-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
