Georgia Tech takes on Northern Illinois on Saturday night in the first of what should be two “tune-up” games to begin the season. After that, the schedule takes the Yellow Jackets to Clemson and the first of five games against teams ranked in the preseason Top 25.

For now, though, the focus is on continuing to blend a significant number of transfers and freshmen into Geoff Collins’ third team at Tech. The talent base seems to have improved significantly, with several potential stars on hand. On offense, that chiefly means running back Jahmyr Gibbs and quarterback Jeff Sims. An improved offensive line could make the difference between another season like the past two (each with three wins) and a bowl appearance.
