Georgia Tech picked up an offensive lineman through the transfer portal as former Kentucky lineman R.J. Adams announced his commitment Saturday.

Adams matches the profile of several players who have aligned with Tech out of the transfer market this offseason – players who were highly-rated as high-school prospects who have yet to play significantly at the college level. From Woodbridge, Va., Adams was the No. 460 prospect in the 2020 class, the No. 23 guard nationally and a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports Composite. He was rated a four-star prospect by Rivals and ESPN.

He chose Kentucky over announced offers from Alabama, Penn State, LSU and Florida State, among others, and had been committed to Penn State before switching his commitment to Kentucky. But Adams did not play in either the 2020 or 2021 seasons. He went in the transfer portal April 19 following the end of Kentucky’s spring practice. Having arrived in 2020 and having yet to play, he should have four years of eligibility.

He will provide additional depth to an offensive line that needs it. Tech completed spring practice with nine scholarship offensive linemen on the roster not including three incoming freshmen signed or committed. Coach Geoff Collins has since added Corey Robinson, a transfer from Kansas, and now Adams to get to 14 scholarship offensive linemen.
