Georgia Tech linebacker Charlie Thomas was honored by the ACC Monday for his play in the Yellow Jackets’ 45-22 win over No. 21 North Carolina Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Thomas, named co-linebacker of the week along with Clemson’s Baylor Spector, led the Jackets with 4.5 tackles for loss in the win over the Tar Heels. The 4.5 tackles for loss was the most that any Tech player has had in a game since Michael Johnson recorded the same number in Tech’s 2008 win over Gardner-Webb, according to sports-reference.com.

Thomas had eight tackles total, two for sacks. As a team, Tech sacked Tar Heels quarterback Sam Howell eight times and contributed to North Carolina’s largest margin of defeat in coach Mack Brown’s tenure.

Thomas is ninth in tackles in the ACC with 32, behind fellow Tech linebackers Quez Jackson (fifth with 34) and Ayinde Eley (tied for sixth with 33). Thomas is tied for third in the ACC in tackles for loss with 6.5.

It is the second time that Thomas has won the honor after winning it in 2019 for his performance against South Florida (nine tackles, two sacks, forced fumble).
