Brannen Greene, the 2013 AJC Player of the Year from Tift County, suffered minor injuries in a fiery car accident in New York over the weekend.

Greene, who left the University of Kansas in his junior season, has been in White Plains, N.Y., preparing for the NBA Draft. The 6-foot-7 forward was one of the nation's best three-point shooters in three seasons with the Jayhawks.
Greene was a passenger in an Uber ride Friday night when the vehicle he was traveling in was rear-ended.

Greene's father, Jeff, described the incident, to KUSports.com:

"The car was struck from behind with so much force it immediately went airborne, came down on a guardrail (with Brannen in back seat), went airborne again and caught fire. It exploded no more than five seconds after he escaped through an opening in a shattered window.

"Everything in the car — his phone, his computer, his luggage was burned and destroyed. The police said Brannen should not have survived. He walked away from it with a terrible headache, all-over body aches but for the most part he's just dealing with mental trauma."

The Uber driver was not injured. A passenger in the other vehicle sought medical treatment.

Greene, who did not seek immediate medical attention did go to the hospital a day later after his father insisted he get checked out. He expressed his thanks to well-wishers Sunday on Twitter:

This Tweet shows the wreckage from the fire:

As a senior at Tift High School, Greene averaged 27 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals while shooting 91 percent from the free throw line. Georgia’s 2013 Mr. Basketball, concluded his high school career with more than 2,000 points
