ATHENS – Much of Monday’s commentary at Georgia football’s weekly media gathering was dedicated to the Bulldogs’ many seniors, who will be honored on Saturday before the final home game of the season. Not much was said about one of those seniors who will be significantly absent.

Adam Anderson, a senior outside linebacker from Rome, remains incarcerated in the Athens-Clarke County jail on rape charges that he vehemently denies. While there is a chance Anderson could be freed at a bond hearing on Wednesday, he will remain indefinitely suspended from the team he has been a part of since signing with the Bulldogs as a 5-star prospect in 2018.

Senior noseguard and All-American candidate Jordan Davis was a member of that class and one of Anderson’s friends.

“I’ve seen him,” Davis said Monday. “I try to show my support and everything. But, you know, I’ve kind of taken a step back. You know, I deleted my social media because of all that stuff. You know, I just want to make sure I’m there as a person. I still want him to know that I love him. We all love him over here. So, we just want to make sure he’s OK.”

Athens-Clarke County police issued an arrest warrant for Anderson on Nov. 9 after a 13-day investigation. A 21-year-old woman filed a report with police on Oct. 29 alleging she was raped by Anderson earlier that morning at a South Milledge Avenue address in Athens.

Anderson turned himself in to authorities last Wednesday and has remained incarcerated since.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart was asked Monday if he had visited Anderson in jail or had any communication with the four-year letterman.

“Again, I’m not allowed to talk much about it,” Smart said. “I’ve spoken to Adam, but that’s the extent of it and that’s really I can talk about.”

Anderson remains in jail without bond. He is scheduled for a public bond hearing in Athens-Clarke County Superior Court on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Even if he is granted bond and released as expected, Anderson remains indefinitely suspended by UGA.

Meanwhile, Anderson’s team carries on. After a 41-17 win over Tennessee last Saturday in Knoxville, the Bulldogs (10-0, 8-0 SEC) closed the book on their first undefeated conference season since the league went to divisional play in 1992. After playing host to Charleston Southern on Saturday (noon, SECN+), No. 1-ranked Georgia will conclude the regular season on Nov. 27 against Georgia Tech (noon, ABC) in Atlanta. The Bulldogs will represent the SEC’s Eastern Division in the SEC Championship game on Dec. 4 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (4 p.m., CBS).

Anderson remains Georgia’s sack leader with 5 and had 32 tackles in eight games with one start.
