Former Olympians in field for 10K national championships

Hosting the men’s and women’s 10K national championships is bringing a deep field to the AJC Peachtree Road Race.

Seven Olympians have committed to run in the Fourth of July race, which features a purse of $100,000.

Scheduled to compete in the men’s race are:

Ryan Hall, a two-time Olympian in the marathon
Abdi Abdirahman, a four-time Olympian (10,000 meters and marathon)

In the women’s race are:

Julie Culley, who competed in the 2012 London Olympics in the 5,000 meters
Amy Hastings, who competed in London in the 10,000 meters
Desiree Linden, who competed in the marathon in the London Olympics
Jen Rhines, a three-time Olympian
Blake Russell, who competed in the marathon in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing

Also in the field are: Sara Hall, national champ in cross country in 2012 and mile in 2011; Serena Burla, national champ in the half-marathon; Lauren Fleshman, a two-time national champion in the 5,000; and Katie McGregor, a two-time (2005, ’06) 10K national champ.

Matt Tegenkamp and Janet Bawcom are the defending champs in the men’s and women’s 10K races, which were held during last year’s AJC Peachtree.
