Falcons offensive assistant coach Ben Steele was named the head coach of the West team for the East-West Shrine Bowl on Thursday.

The college all-star game will be played Jan. 18 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Tampa Bay assistant coach Mike Caldwell will coach the East squad.

Steele, who likely could replace Mike Mularkey as the Falcons’ tight ends coach, joined the Falcons as an offensive assistant in 2019.

Mularkey retired Thursday.

He spent the five previous seasons with Tampa Bay, where he coached the tight ends (2017-18) after assisting the offense for three seasons.
