Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones suffered a “tweak” to an unspecified part of his lower body during the first training camp practice. The injury limited him for the next three days of practice before he returned to full participation Tuesday.

A major injury to Jones essentially would derail any hope for the Falcons to have a good season. For that reason, it might seem prudent for the team to limit practice time for their best player during the preseason.

However, Jones lobbied coach Dan Quinn to allow him to return to practice the day after the injury. Jones said he needs to practice, for his sake and the team’s, and that he can’t be extra cautious when he does.

“That’s when you get hurt,” Jones said Wednesday. “I’m good. I’ve got to get in shape. I’ve got to get in football shape. We’ve got to get our timing down. I’ve got to help the younger guys, show them how to practice, and also give the defense a good look to be game ready when the season starts.”

Jones had a career season in 2015 with 136 catches for an NFL-high 1,871 yards and eight touchdowns. He was voted to All-Pro for the first time in five seasons.
