Falcons linebacker Brooks Reed returned to full practice with the first-team defense for the first time since Aug. 3 on Tuesday.

“I was really pleased to see that,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. “I saw the effort and the energy coming off the edge in the one-on-one drills and he got into some team stuff. It was good first start for him getting back. Yesterday he did some individual (work). Today he did some more. I’m real encouraged with what we saw.”

Reed, who struggled with a groin injury over the offseason, played four seasons with the Houston Texans. He was signed to a five-year, $22 million contract, with $9 million guaranteed by the Falcons in free agency.

Reed, who plays strongside linebacker, is a key piece to the defense, which is hoping to rebound from being ranked last in the league in 2014.
