So far in his second season as a professional, Vic Beasley — Falcons linebacker and this week’s NFC Defensive Player of the Week — has redeemed his lackluster rookie season.
Quinn attributed some of Beasley’s growth in his second season to the influence of veteran teammates such as defensive end Dwight Freeney in his 15th season in the NFL.
“I think he’s really coming into his own, and in that way he’s finding all the little details that you can go to to get better,” coach Dan Quinn said. “That’s what being relentless is. Where is another part of my game where I can get better? What something else I can study to find the edge? Honestly, that’s what we’re looking for and he’s continuing to search for it and find it.”
This season in 13 games, Beasley registered 28 tackles, 13.5 sacks and one defensive touchdown so far.
As the eighth pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Beasley ended his rookie season recording 20 tackles, four sacks and one interception. On Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, Beasley scored his first touchdown as a Falcon and registered three sacks for 27 yards, earning Beasley the NFC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Beasley’s season high for sacks was against the Denver Broncos on Oct. 9, when he recorded 3.5 sacks against Broncos’ quarterback Paxton Lynch.
