New Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said during Tuesday's introductory press conference in Flowery Branch that he would have a hand in reworking the defense with help from assistant coaches Richard Smith and Raheem Morris, but was unsure whether he would be calling plays.

“I’m so fired up to be here with you guys today,” new Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said. “I can’t wait to build a similar championship environment right here in Atlanta.”

Dan Quinn, who agreed to a five-year deal with Atlanta, is the 16th head coach since the franchise began in 1966.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank welcomes new coach Dan Quinn (right) to the team. Blank centered on Quinn, the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks' defensive coordinator, in a search that lasted more than a month following the dismissal of Mike Smith at the end of the regular season.

New head coach Dan Quinn said he would introduce rugby tackling methods he used in Seattle to the Falcons. Quinn, who served as the Seahawks' defensive coordinator the past two seasons, was previously in the same position at the University of Florida.

New Falcons head coach Dan Quinn affirmed that Kyle Shanahan will be his offensive coordinator and Richard Smith will be his defensive coordinator. Keith Armstrong remains as the special teams coordinator. Quinn added that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris will join the staff as assistant head coach/defensive passing game coordinator.

Falcons new head coach Dan Quinn will have authority over the 53-man roster and the 46-man practice squad roster. Building those rosters will take collaboration between Quinn, general manager Thomas Dimitroff (left) and assistant general manager Scott Pioli.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank noted that the team's patience in naming a head coach was driven by the need to find the right coach for the Falcons. "We felt so strongly that he was the best coach for us that we stayed patient throughout the playoffs and the Super Bowl," he said.
