The Falcons were shorthanded on defense before their game against the 49ers today and the situation worsened when two key players suffered injuries during the first half.

Starting defensive end Tyson Jackson (rib) and reserve safety Robenson Therezie (hamstring) both left the game. Jackson returned to the game later in the half but Therezie was out for the game. Falcons defensive tackle Paul Soliai suffered a head injury in the fourth quarter and didn’t return.

Therezie’s injury hurt the depth in a secondary already missing starting safety William Moore (groin) and No. 3 cornerback Robert Alford (groin). The Falcons also were without starting linebacker Justin Durant (calf).

“I think we did pretty good,” Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant said. “The young guys stepped up, the rookies. We limited the explosive (plays). Overall I thought we were good.”
