Falcons left tackle Jake Matthews, who is trying to play on a bad ankle, had his second straight sub-par game.

He allowed five of the Falcons nine quarterback hurries and two sacks against the Chicago Bears, according to Pro Football Focus’ film review.

“Jake is a tough guy,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said Monday. “Jake has done a very good job of dealing with that ankle all through this season.”

Matthews, the sixth overall pick in the NFL draft in 2014, received the lowest overall Pro Football Focus grade among all tackles last week against the New York Giants after allowing two quarterback hurries and committing two penalties.

Smith doesn’t believe that the ankle injury is hindering Matthews’ play.
