Matthew Stafford's wife, Kelly, is planning to undergo surgery for a brain tumor she was diagnosed with in January.

The onetime Georgia Bulldogs cheerleader asked for prayers in an Instagram post where she announced she has an acoustic neuroma — or a benign tumor — resting on her cranial nerves.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't completely terrified of brain surgery," she wrote in an Instagram post. "I am."

The Staffords met as undergrads at Georgia and wed in 2015. They are good friends of Matt Ryan and his wife, Sarah.

He was the top overall NFL draft pick in 2009 by the Detroit Lions out of Georgia. The quarterback signed a five-year, $135-million contract extension with the Lions in 2017.

The couple have three children, twin girls, Sawyer and Chandler, who were born in 2017, and a daughter, Hunter, who was born in August.
