Falcons safety Kemal Ishmael (shoulder) and running back Terron Ward (ankle) were ruled out for Thursday’s exhibition game against the Dolphins in Orlando.

“They ran this week and they are getting closer,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said Tuesday. “I would say they have a good shot for next week but they won’t participate in this week’s game.”

Ishmael has been the primary backup at strong safety behind rookie Keanu Neal. He started 15 of 32 games over the past two seasons.

Ward is the No. 3 running back behind Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. In 14 games last season he had 29 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown and nine receptions for 73 yards.
