FLOWERY BRANCH — The Falcons re-signed Chris Chester, who started all 16 games at right guard last sesason, on Wednesday.

Chester, 33, had offseason shoulder surgery after playing 100 percent of the offensive snaps (1,140) last season. He also played 60 snaps on special teams.

Chester is the Falcons’ most-seasoned linemen. He’s played in 153 NFL games and has made 127 starts.

The Falcons were trying to upgrade the position this offseason and still may pick a guard in the draft.

The Falcons tried to land former Seattle guard J.R. Sweezy, but he signed a five-year, $32.5 million deal with Tampa Bay. The Falcons also had Ted Larsen in for a visit, but he signed a one-year, $1.65 million deal with Chicago.

Chester, 6-foot-3, 303 pounds, was originally selected by Baltimore in the second-round (56th overall) of the 2006 draft. He's also played with Washington.
