FLOWERY BRANCH — In what was a presumptive move, the Falcons exercised the fifth-year option on cornerback Desmond Trufant, a first-round pick in 2013, who has developed into a Pro Bowler.

Trufant, 25, plays left cornerback and made the Pro Bowl last season. The fifth-year is worth $8.026 million.

He made 42 tackles and had one interception last season as teams tended to stay away from his side of the field.

He was not worried about his contract status when asked about the fifth-year option on Tuesday.

“I’m here,” Trufant said. “I plan on being here a long time.”

Trufant working on improving in the offseason program.

“I just want to be the best me,” Trufant said. “I want to improve in every category. Technique, tackling, mental and communications. I’d just like to improve in every category. Just because I want to be an all-around solid corner.”
