Falcons honor Deion Sanders

Deion Sanders, the most entertaining and flamboyant player in team history, will be inducted into the Atlanta Falcons' Ring of Honor on Nov. 11.

Deion "Prime Time" Sanders began his NFL career in Atlanta, playing five seasons with the Falcons.

While with the Falcons, Deion Sanders wore many hats, playing primarily at cornerback, but also occasionally as a wide receiver, kick returner, and punt returner.

Deion Sanders listens on the phone as he waits for the announcement of his selection in the NFL draft -- fifth pick overall in 1989 by the Atlanta Falcons. Also that year he was signed by the New York Yankees. During his first season in 1989, he hit a major league home run and scored a touchdown in the NFL in the same week - the only player to ever do so.

Sanders' Falcons career started off with a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown in his first NFL game against the Los Angeles Rams at Fulton County Stadium.

Deion Sanders was an electrifying player who averaged more than 20 yards each season on kickoff returns for the Falcons. He scored a total of 10 touchdowns on five returns, three interceptions and two receptions.

Deion Sanders was selected to eight Pro Bowls, including in 1992 and 1993 as a member of the Falcons. He is the first Falcons player to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated (Nov. 13, 1989).

Deion Sanders established 12 club records during his time in Atlanta, including most interceptions for touchdowns (2), longest punt return (79 yards-TD) and most punt return touchdowns (2).

A scene that became commonplace for the two-sport star, Deion Sanders makes his way off an aircraft following a game with the Atlanta Falcons to suit up to play for the Atlanta Braves. This time he makes his way to Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium for an Atlanta Braves' NLCS game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He did not play in that game. He is, however, the only person to play in both a Super Bowl and a World Series.

In November 2011, the Falcons inducted Deion Sanders into the Ring of Honor.
