New England quarterback Tom Brady is fond of the Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, who’s set to be named the Detroit Lions head coach after Super Bowl LII.

“I’ve known Matt for a long time,” Brady said. “He first started as an offensive coach when Charlie (Weis) was here. He was an offensive assistant. He did a great job and moved over to defense. He really worked his way up through the system and has done a great job with our defense.”

In practice, Brady likes to compete against Patricia’s defenses. The banter can get going pretty good.

“I do like when people joke with me, because that means they are comfortable with me,” Brady said. “I like when guys know me for a while they feel free to cut loose. That’s how I am and I like to kind of go back and forth with him.

“It’s very competitive out there.”
