Fans react: Kirby Smart agrees to new deal with Georgia

Kirby Smart's base salary at Georgia this year is $3.75 million. UGA will pay Smart a $600,000 bonus for making the national championship game. He will make $200,000 more for the Bulldogs' top-5 finish. Last year, the staff received a combined $292,000 for making the Liberty Bowl. Georgia assistant coaches this year will split $877,000 for reaching the national championship. Defensive coordinator Mel Tucker -- Georiga's highest-paid assistant -- is due a $112,500 bonus. The University of Georgia and coach Kirby Smart agreed on a 7-year deal worth $49 million deal Thursday.

This contract makes Smart the fifth-highest paid coach in college football and the third-highest coach in the SEC.

Georgia fans erupted on Twitter after learning about Smart’s new contract.
