A look at the top running backs in the Atlantic Coast Conference heading into the 2017 season.

Who are the top running backs in the ACC heading into the 2017 season? Dedrick Mills of Georgia Tech is certainly on the list, and in the eyes of some could be at the top.

Mills rushed for 771 yards and 12 touchdowns as a true freshman in 2016, including this touchdown in a victory over Georgia Southern.

Mills was the first true freshman RB to start a season opener for the Yellow Jackets since 2008, and he finished the season by earning the MVP of the TaxSlayer Bowl after rushing for 169 yards in Georgia Tech’s 33-18 win over Kentucky.

Joining Mills at running back on most preseason All-ACC teams is Miami Hurricanes star Mark Walton.

Walton rushed for 1,117 and 14 touchdowns last season and his rushing total is the best among returning running backs in the ACC for 2017.

Virginia Tech's Travon McMillian (34, shown here scoring against Georgia Tech during the 2015 season) has rushed for more than 1,700 yards and 14 touchdowns the last two seasons and should be among the conference's best again this fall.

Jacques Patrick is expected to emerge as the leader of the FSU running corp with the departure of Dalvin Cook to the NFL, and true freshman (and early enrollee) Cam Akers could make the noise in the Seminole backfield as well.

Lamar Jackson isn't a running back, but he is the leading returning rusher in the ACC after gaining 1,571 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground in 2016.

In addition to the 1,571 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground, the Louisville quarterback passed for 3,543 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2016 and won the Heisman Trophy as the top player in the nation.
