Before former Georgia Tech Myles Autry signee received his release from his letter of intent just before the start of preseason camp, he had been assigned jersey No. 8. With the number now available – kicker Andrew Chau wears it, but players can have duplicate numbers as long as they’re not on the field at the same time – coach Paul Johnson said about 30 players have requested to have it.

“Everybody wants a single digit,” Johnson said. “Offensive linemen would take one if they let them.”

Johnson said he’ll assign it based on expectation of playing time.
