After the upset win over No. 14 Virginia Tech Saturday, Georgia Tech named its three players of the week Monday – guard Parker Braun, nickel back Lawrence Austin and punter Ryan Rodwell.

Braun was credited with 10 knockdown blocks in helping the Yellow Jackets gain 309 rushing yards against the Hokies, considered one of the top defenses in the country. Georgia Tech had not reached 300 rushing yards against Virginia Tech since 2010.

Austin had two interceptions and a forced fumble. One interception and the fumble, which Austin’s twin brother Lance recovered, were turned into touchdowns in the 30-20 win.

Rodwell punted six times and averaged 42.5 yards per punt. A critical play in the game was his 54-yard punt in the second quarter that pinned the Hokies inside their 10-yard line. After Georgia Tech forced a punt, the Jackets drove for the touchdown that put them ahead 20-0.

Braun and Austin were also named the ACC players of the week at their respective position groups.

If you don’t look at it that way, you’re never gonna increase and improve yourself as a football team.” (Daniel Varnado for the AJC)
