Georgia Tech junior tennis player Christopher Eubanks has received an invitation to qualify for the U.S. Open, a first for the team.
Eubanks, who was an All-American and ACC player of the year as a sophomore and qualified into the BB&T Atlanta Open, will be in a field of 128 players trying to claim one of 16 slots in the main draw. Tech has never had a current player receive a wild-card entry into the tournament qualifier.
“I am extremely excited to be able to get up there and play in a tournament I’ve always dreamed of playing in,” Eubanks said in a statement. “I think for me, as an American, this is the biggest tournament of the year, and I am honored and excited to get up there and see what I can do.”
The qualifying tournament begins Tuesday in New York. Eubanks would have to win three matches to make the final 16 and earn a spot in the 128-player men’s singles main draw.
