Sun Belt Conference adds a fifth bowl

The Sun Belt Conference will have affiliations with five bowl games for the 2016-17 season with Thursday’s addition of the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl.

The Tucson-based game will pit a team from the Mountain West against a team from the conference that is home to Georgia State and Georgia Southern. The game will be placed on Dec. 30.

The Sun Belt’s other tie-ins are:

R+L Carriers Bowl in New Orleans (first selection, Sun Belt and Conference USA);
GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile, Ala. (second selection, Sun Belt vs. Mid-American Conference);
Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Ala. (third selection, Sun Belt vs. Mid-American Conference);
AutoNation Cure Bowl in Orlando, which the Panthers played in last year (fourth selection, Sun Belt vs. Amaerican Athletic Conference);
NOVA Home Loans Bowl (fifth selection);

Interestingly, the conference didn’t have bowl-eligible teams last season. It did have five in 2014.
