Kobe Smith, a defensive tackle from Archer, set his own course: There was no publicity, just a decision to join South Carolina quietly.

Three things to know about Smith:

1. A Muschamp victory: South Carolina was able to pry Smith away from an early commitment to Kentucky. He committed to coach Will Muschamp and the Gamecocks on Jan. 14 and enrolled at South Carolina the next day, ending a recruiting process that also included a commitment to North Carolina State.

2. Stroll and enroll: Smith didn't plan any public announcement of his decision and elected to just show up on campus in time to enroll. And that's what the 6-foot-4, 295-pounder did — showed up at the South Carolina campus and enrolled.

3. Dedicated player: "Kobe has been a joy to coach has continued to work his hard and his dedication has paid off for him," Archer coach Andy Dyre said. "It will be fun to watch him mix it up with the big boys in the SEC."
