According to a woman who claims to be Roquan Smith’s aunt, someone has stolen Smith’s Georgia helmet and jerseys from his Bulldogs playing days.
Smith was taken with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He was the first Georgia and SEC player taken in the draft.
Shaquwanda Baker, claiming that Smith is her nephew, posted a message on Twitter notifying everyone of what had happened. Baker’s tweet was retweeted by Georgia inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann.
Below is the message that Baker wrote along with her original tweet.
“Dawg Nation my nephew Roquan Smith has worked sooo hard to play in his UGA jersey and helmet and to one day take it off and hang it on his wall,” Baker wrote. “However, over the past few hours someone took that away from him by wrongfully taking these items from his property in Athens. My prayer is that the person who committed the crime will deal with their issues and that anyone who knows of information related to this crime will report it immediately to the Athens Police Dept. There were a lot of items take but none more to his heart than his UGA Jerseys and helmet. Thanks for your support and for spending this unpleasant news with hopes of finding the person who did this.”
According to a police report, the burglary occurred at some point from 5 p.m. Friday to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Items that were taken from Smith’s vehicle, in addition to his helmet, Rose Bowl and national championship jerseys include:

• Bluetooth
• Watches
• Sunglasses
• Nike athletic shoes
• UGA 2017 football helmet
• UGA 2017 football jersey
• UGA 2017 Rose Bowl jersey
• UGA 2017 national championship jersey
Smith won the 2017 Butkus Award, which is given to the nation’s top linebacker. He was also named the MVP of the SEC Championship Game, which Georgia won for the first time since 2005. He also won the defensive MVP for the Rose Bowl, which Georgia also won thanks to many of the key plays Smith made during the game.
