Ralph Sampson’s son transfers to Tech
Robert Sampson, the son of Naismith Hall of Famer Ralph Sampson, has transferred to Georgia Tech for his final season of eligibility. He has enrolled and began summer classes Monday.
Sampson, who played three seasons at East Carolina, will have to sit out the coming season and will be eligible to play in the 2014-15 season. Sampson, a 6-foot-8 forward, started 51 games over his three-year career and led the Pirates to the Collegeinsider.com tournament championship. He averaged 9.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game last season.
“We’re excited about Robert joining our program,” Tech coach Brian Gregory said in a statement. “His size, length and proven rebounding ability fits in well with our style of play. The fact that he comes from a successful basketball family that values education makes Georgia Tech a great fit.”
Sampson attended Northview High in Johns Creek for two years before moving to a school in Las Vegas and finally finishing at the Bullis School in Potomac, Md.
