Morehouse’s stay in the SIAC tournament was a short one after its 53-49 upset loss to Paine in the quarterfinals Wednesday in Birmingham.
The Maroon Tigers (20-5), the tournament’s top seed, shot 29 percent (19-of-66) from the field and only hit two of 25 3-point attempts. But it was a late run by Paine (9-18) that helped seal the deal in the upset.
SIAC player of the year Omar Alston had 10 points and 12 rebounds to lead Morehouse. Paine’s Cameron Gaines led all scorers with 13 points.
Morehouse still hopes to land a berth in the NCAA Division II tournament when the selections are announced March 10.
Clark Atlanta will meet LeMoyne-Owen in a quarterfinal matchup Thursday and the winner will meet Paine in the semifinals Friday.
