Thanks to the numbers he's put up this season, Tre Mason has established himself as one of the SEC's top running backs.
If he keeps it up, it might land him an even bigger individual prize at the end of the year.
On Thursday, Auburn's junior was one of 10 players named as semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, which is given annually to the player deemed the top running back in the country. Mason has run for 1,038 yards (second-most in the league this season behind South Carolina's Mike Davis, a fellow semifinalist for the award) and an SEC-best 16 touchdowns. Seven of those scores have come in the past two games, and the Palm Beach, Fla., native has scored a rushing touchdown in seven straight outings, the longest streak by a Tiger since 2004 and tied for the third-longest active streak in the FBS.
“God has blessed me with the hard work, dedication and persistence to be able to accomplish my dreams this year,” Mason said in a release from the university. “Being a part of what my team is achieving is something truly special.”
The three finalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 25, with the winner being honored during the Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 12.
