Georgia Tech guard Josh Okogie earned his third ACC rookie of the week honor after scoring a combined 40 points in wins over Clemson and N.C. State this past week. Sunday against the Wolfpack, Okogie scored 27 points on 10-for-18 shooting to lead the Yellow Jackets to an 86-76 road win.

Okogie is the only ACC freshman who has won the award three times this season. He’s also the first Tech freshman to win it three times since Derrick Favors won it four times in the 2009-10 season on his way to being named ACC rookie of the year. Favors is the most recent of the Yellow Jackets’ 11 winners of the rookie of the year award.

On Thursday, Okogie scored 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting with three assists and two steals as Tech beat Clemson 75-63 at McCamish Pavilion.

The 27-point game against N.C. State was his second-highest point total this season, following his 38-point performance against Tulane in November that set a school scoring record for freshmen.

If you don’t look at it that way, you’re never gonna increase and improve yourself as a football team.” (Daniel Varnado for the AJC)
