Georgia Tech guard Josh Okogie was named ACC rookie of the week on Monday for his performance in the Yellow Jackets’ upset of then-No. 9 North Carolina. It was the freshman’s second such honor this season, making him the first Tech player to earn the honor twice since Marcus Georges-Hunt in the 2012-13 season.

Okogie, from Shiloh High, scored 26 points to lead the Jackets to a 75-63 defeat of the Tar Heels on Saturday at McCamish Pavilion. Okogie shared the award with Boston College’s Ky Bowman.

Tech broke a seven-game losing streak to the Tar Heels and also ended a 10-game losing streak in ACC openers. Okogie was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final 1:05 to seal the win for Tech. He was 7-for-14 from the field and 11-for-13 from the free-throw line, along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Okogie was named ACC rookie of the week Nov. 28 after setting a school record for freshmen with 38 points against Tulane. He is Tech’s second-leading scorer at 14.8 points per game.

Tech plays No. 8 Duke Wednesday night in Durham, N.C.
