ESPN is reporting that after a long dance, Georgia Tech has signed former Virginia head coach Al Groh (right, with Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer) to be its next defensive coordinator.

A longtime friend and assistant for NFL coaching legend Bill Parcells, Groh replaced Parcells as Jets head coach for one season - 2000 - in which his team posted a 9-7 record.

Groh (right, with Jets QB Vinny Testaverde in 2000) made his NFL debut as special teams and tight ends coach with the Atlanta Falcons in 1987.

After spending the 2000 football season with the Jets, Groh (left) resigned to take the head coaching job at his alma mater, Virginia. He was a DE for the Cavaliers from 1963-65.

Despite posting an overall 85-93 record as a college head coach with Wake Forest (1981-86) and UVA (2001-09), Groh (left center) was named ACC Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2007. He was 3-2 in bowls as well.
