Georgia Tech announced its new apparel deal with Adidas on Tuesday morning. The school had been seeking a new apparel partner since the decision to end its apparel contract with Russell Athletic at the end of its contract in June 2018.

Coaches and athletes have been hopeful that a new apparel provider will be able to help their teams with branding and recruiting, as Russell Athletic was seen as a less desirable brand than Adidas, Nike and Under Armour, which dominate the college athletics apparel market.

The partnership was reported Monday evening. Rivals was the first to report the news earlier Monday night.

A social-media post by the athletic department Monday night called attention to a coming announcement. An email sent out to fans proclaimed “a major announcement” at 8 a.m. The post on Twitter read “We are the tomorrow takers.” Adidas produced a commercial in 2015 titled “Here’s to the Takers.”

In Tech, Adidas lands a school in a premier conference in a major metropolitan market. Other Adidas clients include Miami, N.C. State, Kansas, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Arizona State.

adidas and Georgia Tech today announced they have entered into a multi-year partnership in which the three-stripe brand will serve as the exclusive supplier for Georgia Tech athletics uniforms, apparel, footwear and accessories for the Yellow Jackets' 17 varsity sports programs.
