Georgia Tech announces firing of Paul Hewitt

Georgia Tech fires basketball coach Paul Hewitt.

Georgia Tech athletics director Dan Radakovich met with the press Saturday to discuss the decision to relieve basketball coach Paul Hewitt of his coaching duties.

A national search will be held for Hewitt's replacement and Radakovich hopes to have the new coach in place by the Final Four, which begins April 2.

Tech players Jason Morris (left) and Iman Shumpert attended the press conference. Both said that the players feel somewhat responsible for their coach's firing.

Shumpert (right) was a second-team All-ACC selection after averaging 17.3 points this season.

Morris, a freshman, averaged six points this season.
