Eagles will be prepared for Tech’s triple-option offense: Yellow Jackets coach Paul Johnson used it to win two Division I-AA championships for Southern.

Southern opens Sun Belt Conference play against the Jaguars in Mobile.

Sept. 25, vs. Appalachian State, 7:30 p.m.

ESPNU will broadcast Thursday night clash against the Musketeers, who were the Eagle’ rivals in the Southern Conference and also made the move to the Sun Belt.

Oct. 4, at New Mexico State, 8 p.m.

The Eagles make the 1,600-mile trek to Las Cruces to face the Aggies, who join the Sun Belt this season as a football-only member.

Oct. 11, vs. Idaho, 6 p.m.

The Vandals finished 1-11 in 2013, their first season under coach Paul Petrino, younger brother of Louisville coach Bobby Petrino.

Oct. 25, at Georgia State TBA

This is the first meeting between the schools (Georgia State started playing in 2010), but it’s certain to quickly become a rivalry.

Oct. 30, vs. Troy, 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles play their second ESPNU Thursday night game of the season.

Bobcats are led by Dennis Franchione, the former Alabama and Texas A&M coach.

Nov. 15, at Navy, 3:30 p.m.

The Midshipmen are 49-30 in six seasons under coach Ken Niumatalolo.

Nov. 29, vs. Louisiana-Monroe, 6 p.m.

The Eagles are ineligible for bowl game, so this will be their season finale no matter their record.
