Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy is facing marijuana possession charges after his arrest over the weekend.

According to ESPN, citing a Gainesville police report, Purifoy was riding in a car that was being stopped for a traffic violation early Sunday when the officer saw a passenger throw a marijuana cigarette out of the window. He also said he found marijuana residue and a bag containing 2.5 grams of pot in the car, according to the report.

“Coach Muschamp is aware of the incident and is handling it,” University of Florida spokesman Steve McClain said.

Purifoy becomes the seventh member of the Florida football team to be arrested on marijuana charges over the past two years.

Cornerback Janoris Jenkins, safety De’Ante Saunders, linebacker Chris Martin, and defensive linemen Kedric Johnson, Leon Orr and Jafar Mann have also been arrested for marijuana possession since Muschamp became coach in January 2011.

Four of the players — Jenkins, Martin, Saunders and Mann — are no longer on the team.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Muschamp was planning to move Purifoy, a junior, from cornerback to wide receiver for spring practice.
