Former Tech football star Nick Rogers dies

Fulton County authorities say a vehicle driven by former Tech football star Nick Rogers left the road in College Park and struck a power pole, killing him.

Nick Rogers (left) ranked eighth in Tech history in career sacks (16.5) and seventh in career tackles for loss (31) after his final Tech season, 2001.

In 2001, Nick Rogers (right) was second on the team to Greg Gathers (55) with six sacks, 12 tackles for loss and 26 quarterback pressures. The previous season, Rogers ranked fourth in the ACC with nine sacks.

A full-time starter for two years at Georgia Tech, Nick Rogers (right) earned second-team All-ACC honors at defensive end in 2000 and 2001.

In a loss to top-ranked Florida State in 1999, Rogers (38, back left) had a career-high seven tackles with a sack and a tackle for loss.

Switching from defensive end to linebacker and back in 1999, Nick Rogers (top) returned in 2000 to lead the team in forced fumbles. He was named the Jackets' most improved defensive player.

Rogers (38) teamed with Greg Gathers (left) to give Tech one of college football's best tandems at defensive end during the 2000-01 seasons. The duo combined for 38 sacks and 63 tackles for loss in those two seasons.

The Minnesota Vikings drafted Rogers (left) in the sixth round in 2002 and converted him to linebacker. He also played for the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins in his four-year NFL career.
